The Cardinal Rule of Marketing

Ever heard the term “Cardinal Rule of Marketing” and wondered what the heck people were talking about?

Let’s first define what this rule is just in case you don’t know:

……drum roll please……………………………………………

Now for some of you this may be common sense but unfortunately for some in marketing they never adhere to this one critical rule.

Some of you reading this could be thinking, “Well I have lots of friends who are interested in my business, and they would make great business partners!”. Well if that’s you, and you’ve had success recruiting family and friends, then the more power to you. There are always exception to every rule, but let’s look deeper into why the “Cardinal Rule of Marketing” has existed for so long.

Let’s look at several factors as to why this is never a good idea, as I have experienced this in my own marketing and some of the biggest earners in the industry will agree:

family and friends don't make good business partners

1. Sense of entitlement – Most family and close friends will feel they have a sense of entitlement if they become a business partner with you or purchase some type of product. The reason for this is that they feel “special”, as they should receive more training, assistance, or some type of discount for the opportunity or product your promoting. This is not fair to your overall market.

2. Negative support – People who know you well or have known you for very long amounts of time, feel that they can basically express their viewpoint or say anything critical towards your business goals. In my experience complete strangers have been far more supportive than close family members in seeing you succeed. There are also possibilities of jealousy and or resentment if you are becoming successful or genuinely enjoy working your business.

3. Possibility of failure – Unfortunately some network marketing businesses fail, or some products have problems and are no longer sold due to defects or some other issue. Family and friends are going to be far more critical if you have them involved in your business venture and the company goes “belly up” as they say. There is also the risk of long term resentment from family and friends if this does happen as well.

4. Constant ridicule – In conversations with individuals in my downline and in other business opportunities, family and friends are far more critical to someone trying to get ahead within a business venture. You have to understand that this ridicule is completely out of jealousy and resentment as discussed in point 2. But it’s important to point out that some family and friends DON’T want you to be successful. The reasons are many, but in my experience is that they want you to struggle just as they are, and issues are very apparent among friends and family who are used to the job mindset.

Delving further into this concept, through my own personal experience, it is NEVER a good idea to market to friends and family. I made a lot of mistakes when I first got into marketing, and trying to chase down my friends and family made me look like I had no credibility, desperate, and had no ability to advertise or promote my business on my own.

I am far more comfortable speaking to complete strangers and love to hear from people online through my website whom I have never spoken to before. I can then educate them on online business or the benefits of a home based business. There is an inherent boundary that you must cross if this is a family member or friend, due to the reasons listed above.

I would rather let my friends and family see my success and say “Just What Are You Doing to Afford That?“, then I’m far more open to a conversation about my business opportunity.

Again this has been my personal experience, and you may have had a very different experience in recruiting your family and friends into your business. The main characteristic to look for in any recruit is that they are:

  • Open minded
  • Dislike their current work
  • Want to spend more time at home
  • Entrepreneurial mindset (by far most important)
  • Tired of making someone else rich

In closing, I would like to mention again that your experiences may have been very different, but if you are struggling with trying to convince your family and friends of the benefits of your business or product, I want you to know that there are millions of people online that you can market to every single moment of every single day. You’ll meet great like minded business partners, and all it takes is one great recruit to turn your business around!

Internet Marketing Vs. Network Marketing

Internet Marketing and Network Marketing has similarities and differences. We will look at both so you can better decide what may be better for you if your deciding to get involved in either one.

Internet Marketing is any type of marketing (promotion of goods or services) done on what you are viewing this article on, the Internet. It’s important to realize that Internet Marketing can be used to promote just about anything, as companies are using the internet to market their primary products and services and have been doing so for quite some time.

The simplest explanation of Network Marketing is a method of marketing that utilizes independent representatives to reach potential customers that a company otherwise would not reach with traditional marketing methods. The companies main objective by using network marketing is to use the potential of individual sellers to spread the word about the products promoted as well as have the individual become a distributor to sell the product in their community, thus creating a network for the product.

Since we’ve looked at the general definition of each of these, let’s look at the main benefits of each:

Internet Marketing

  • Any type of product or service can be promoted
  • The internet can be used to market products that market themselves without the individual constantly working the business; thus creating time leverage
  • With enough determination, just about anyone, whether an individual or a fortune 500 company, can learn effective internet marketing strategies to sell a product or service
  • A huge amount of people can be reached through the internet; thus allowing the potential for a huge business environment for a product or service
  • The cost of domain (website name) and hosting for a company or individual’s website is relatively very inexpensive compared to traditional business models

Network Marketing

  • Primarily consists of products that need to be reordered constantly; causing repeat business
  • Allows individuals to recruit other business minded people to promote the product; building their own sales force that also generates commissions
  • With enough determination, just about any individual can build their own network marketing business, while recruiting others to leverage their own time working the business
  • A large network of consumers and recruits can be built in a relatively short amount of time; depending on the individual’s work ethic and effectiveness with network marketing
  • Offline as well as online marketing can be used in conjunction with the network marketing business; enabling a huge potential for the business itself
  • The buy in to start a network marketing business, although higher than to get started in internet marketing, is still relatively inexpensive.

Both Sound Really Good, huh?

benefits of internet and network marketing

Well not so fast let’s look at some of the drawbacks of the two, based on my own experience as well as many experienced marketers.

Internet Marketing Drawbacks:

  • Huge learning curve behind effective internet marketing strategies; this can seem very daunting for person with other responsibilities such as work, family, etc.
  • Huge technical learning curve that could possibly be unrealistic to most who are not “tech-savvy”
  • Having a great product is only half the battle; effective marketing behind the product is essential for the business to thrive and this is where the “work” ethic separates most initial marketers
  • “Information Overload” – the amount of information to even get started as an internet marketer can possibly make some individuals “run for the hills” or get out altogether before they even get started

Network Marketing Drawbacks:

  • Although initially successful, some network marketing companies fail altogether; leaving high paid distributors commissions virtually gone
  • Amount of responsibility in recruiting others into the network marketing business can be daunting to some people; especially to more introverted types
  • Successful network marketers must continually keep their downline (people recruited into their business) motivated, and this can be challenging for some individuals
  • Although never recommended; some individuals resort to attempting to bring in their friends and family into their business, and this may create personal problems

So Which One Is Best For You?

is internet marketing or network marketing better?

Through my own personal experience it’s my recommendation that if you are the more introverted type of person (shy, likes to work alone, doesn’t like large groups, etc.), then Internet Marketing is a good fit for you. Being able to promote a product and never deal with the customer will really appeal to these types of individuals.

On the other hand, if your the extroverted type (life of the party, very outgoing, always center of attention, etc.), then Network Marketing would be a great match for you. Constantly dealing with your business partners, motivating, encouraging, and discussing different business strategies will really appeal to you.

Or if you’re like myself and the more introverted type but see the huge potential behind network marketing, you’ll quickly get over the shyness because your so motivated about your business. This has happened to many individuals who discover the huge benefits of operating a business over a job.

Infinity Downline Review – Everything You Need to Know About the Infinity Downline Business

So just what is Infinity Downline and how can YOU make an honest, reliable income from the program?

Infinity Downline Review

Infinity Downline is an online home based business opportunity that anyone can join due to an extremely low membership fee.  The business was launched on March 1st of 2009 by Peter Wolfing, who had the intention of creating an opportunity for anyone to get started with a $25 membership.  Compare this to opening a restaurant or any other traditional business where you pay for the building, employees, and basic upkeep of what that business entails.  Ten to hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees is the norm and what you would most certainly experience.

Infinity Downline is a constantly growing, very popular online business opportunity that gives you the ability to earn a long term residual and passive income.  When you signup, you’ll obtain a product line with hundreds of audio and video with seasoned advice to put your own infinity downline website to use, generating signups on autopilot, 24-7.  Through the amazing products, you’ll be able to learn offline and online marketing and computer skills through member training, as well as access to a constantly expanding library to further assist your business.  You also instantly receive a customized website and personalized for you, with your name and phone number to promote the instant you join!

Here are just a few samples of the products themselves:

As far as cost, I have yet to find another opportunity that can beat Infinity Downline. The products themselves are worth thousands of dollars alone!  Put simply, it’s a program that is impossible to beat as a starting point for your own Internet Business, as well as another source of income for seasoned marketers who keep hearing this objection:

I just can’t afford that right now

This is an incredible opportunity, but like all businesses it does require work in order to be successful.

Let’s look at the advantages and disadvantages of the program so you can make an informed decision based on an honest overall assessment.

Infinity Downline Review – Pros & Cons

The Advantages:

1.  Perfect for anyone, regardless of experience, who wants to start a home based business with very little startup money.

2.  Great for seasoned marketers as well who want an easy additional income stream.

3.  You receive a personalized website designed and ready to promote the moment you become a member.

4.  Live and pre-recorded video training provided to assist anyone actively working their Infinity Downline business.

5.  Ideal to serve as a great foundation for beginning entrepreneurs who can then later expand to other marketing opportunites.

6. Huge potential for signups, since Infinity Downline is actively being searched by thousands each and every month.

7. Unlimited earning potential, whether a six figure annual income as well as a residual (recurring) income.  The amount you earn is completely up to you as far as what work ethic you put into your promotional efforts.

8. Easy to duplicate the success of highly paid sponsors; your signups can easily repeat methods to ensure the same success.

9.  The support feature is extremely helpful, responsive, and most importantly available to give assistance in any issue you may be experience with the program.

10.  This business has NO admin fees ever.

11.  Members break even with just one signup!  100% Money back on the first person that signups under you.  Each signup after that is pure profit.  Absolutely unheard of earning potential with this business.

Now that we’ve discussed the advantages of Infinity Downline, it’s just as important to look at the disadvantages or drawbacks of the program. The company’s sales letter won’t tell you the honest truth but I will, and it’s my sincerest desire to tell you the truth of this business rather than lure you into an uninformed decision.  I don’t do business that way and never will.

After all, this is a Review and it’s important to look at both positive and negative aspects.

Here are the drawbacks:

infinity downline review

1.  The 25$ startup cost is very low, and is all the expense you’ll ever need to invest monthly.  But it’s important to understand that when you become a member, you will be promoted optional tools that Peter Wolfing recommends in building your business.  Since there is no Admin fee, this is how the company makes a profit.  All of the tools are of high quality, but it’s important to know that you’ll be exposed to optional expenses in the back office of your website.

2.  As with any business, whether offline or online, there is no 100% guarantee you will succeed or get the results you want.  I’m not gonna insult your intelligence by telling you if you join Infinity Downline, “You’ll instantly make millions or thousands of dollars overnight“.  If you see a website or a product like that, instantly get away because that is an outright scam.  Success in any business is and always will be working the program, plain and simple.

Infinity Downline Review – Is this Opportunity Right for You?

So after reading the above, both good and bad with this opportunity, do you feel that Infinity Downline is right for you?

The honest truth is that this business may not be right for you.  If you sign up and instantly think that you will be flooded with signups and income overnight without putting in any work, you have to understand that you will fail.  On the other hand, if your motivated and driven for results, and ready to use successful marketing strategies and principles….then this opportunity is an ideal match for you.

Infinity Downline is great if you share these same characteristics:

-  A hard working professional tired of the cubicle and making their boss and company owners richer.

-  Stay at home parent who needs additional income and doesn’t want to work a minimum wage job or several minimum wage jobs to better provide for his/her family.

-  Individuals who are content with their careers or jobs, but would like to build a business on their own with 100% profits that has the ability to work on autopilot to create additional income streams into the thousands.

-  Experienced Marketers who would like to add additional income, as the program is very easy to implement and would be a huge advantage to the seasoned marketer who has objections to higher cost opportunites from prospects.

So why are some people really successful while others end up failing and frustrated?  It’s true that not everyone makes a profit in online business, or any business for that matter.

infinity downline review

Here are several very important reasons why members fail with the Infinity Downline program, or any business venture for that matter:

1.  They simply give up before they even give themselves a chance to succeed.  This is the #1 reason network or internet marketers fail.

2.   Simply lack of work put into the program.  If you don’t promote your business or put it in front of people, no one even has the chance to signup or buy.

3.  A sense of entitlement; believing that success without putting in any work to build the business will magically happen.

4.  They cease to continually educate themselves in marketing strategies or to learn more about each marketing principle to further promote their business.

The issue with most people joining opportunites like Infinity Downline is that they don’t want to do the WORK in promoting their business.  Even though there are tools that can automate 95% of the work for you, most will not do the 5% they need to do themselves, for a multitude of reasons.

You can give someone the keys to the kingdom, but they have to open the door.”
